Voices of Uganda is a documentary film that follows Voices in Harmony as they take their unique theater program to northern Uganda. The result will be a compelling film illuminating the situation facing teenagers in war-torn northern Uganda.
In July and August of 2007, the Voices team and film crew traveled to an IDP (internally displaced persons) camp in Kitgum, northern Uganda. Over the course of a month, the Voices team implemented their theater program and worked with a group of teenagers to turn their stories into two one-act plays. Topics explored in the plays were HIV/AIDS and Peace Building and Reconciliation.
The plays were then performed by the teenagers themselves for close to one thousand people in their IDP (internally displaced persons) camp.
For the second phase, the team will return to Los Angeles with footage from the theatrical process, as well as stories from former abducted child soldiers and others affected by this 21 year rebel war. These stories, crafted into monologues by professional writers, will be performed by a diverse group of high-profile actors, including Dulé Hill, Allison Janney, Marlee Matlin, Janel Moloney, and Martin Sheen.
The result will be a compelling feature-length documentary with personal accounts, live performances, monologues, music, and dance. The Voices team will seek worldwide distribution of this film so that this crisis can receive the global attention necessary to initiate change. |
